Getting Back on Track: An HSNT Patient Story

In mid-August of 2024, Kimberly was facing a dilemma.

She was having problems with her back and experiencing an immense amount of pain, but she didn’t have insurance, and she couldn’t afford to pay the direct costs that most healthcare providers were charging.

“No one wanted to see me, and I couldn’t afford to pay out of pocket due to my current living and job situation,” says Kimberly “I didn’t want to have to go to an ER because I can’t afford the bill that’s going to come [later]. I was very frustrated.”

Thankfully, Kimberly received referrals to multiple healthcare resources through Plano-based organization CityBridge. The first resource she contacted said they could not get her an appointment for medical care until October. After getting in touch with HSNT, she was able to make an appointment right away. “I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I was, because [my back pain] is hindering my activities in life,” she says.

From the moment she entered the HSNT Plano healthcare center, Kimberly could sense something was different. “Everyone I encountered was just really kind and compassionate,” she shares, “when I was in a severe amount of pain, everyone listened to me and diligently tried to help me.”

When talking about her first experience with HSNT, Kimberly specifically mentions Zheen, a medical assistant at the Plano healthcare center, as well as healthcare practitioner Ana Archilla. “Zheen listened to my health concerns, and she was very nice, so it was a refreshing change. Then Ana came in, and she made recommendations based on what she was actually hearing from me. They both treated me like a human being, not someone who was less than because they don’t have resources.”

Thanks to the care and referrals she received from HSNT, Kimberly is on track to find the source and appropriate treatment of her back pain. Regarding the medical journey ahead, Kimberly states, “It’s going to take me a few visits, but I always look forward to coming [to HSNT] because I feel like I’m going to get the treatment I need.”

When her back pain improves, Kimberly looks forward to getting back to working on her goals and spending time with those she loves. “I have a 7-year-old grandson, and I want to be active with him. Gigi plays a lot with him,” she shares with a smile.
