Welcome Diana Sebastian, FNP - HSNT Team Member Spotlight
Health Services of North Texas welcomes Diana Sebastian, Family Nurse Practitioner to our team.
Diana has served the medical field since 2004, after she received her Bachelors of Nursing from the University of Calicut in India at age 21. In the 17 years since, her experience has ranged from the cardiac unit at a hospital in Kerala, India, to the nursing team at Baylor Regional Medical Center here in North Dallas, and throughout all her years of nursing Diana has enjoyed every minute of it. Diana finds her work rewarding because primary care providers can teach their patients and catch problems early on, reducing the chance of any problems becoming worse.
“I think that’s the beauty of preventive care and primary care,” Diana says. “You listen to your patients and talk to them about their lifestyle and changes, and that’s the big thing I can do - help prevent chronic conditions. That’s rewarding to me.”
Diana has worked with many non-profit organizations in the past, and as a first-generation immigrant she can connect with her patients’ challenges on a deeper level.
“I’m a first-generation immigrant, and when my parents came [to the U.S.] …there was no way they could’ve gotten health insurance at the time, and I can relate with that. Even if you have the ability to use resources around you, you don’t know what’s around you. I can help my patients with that.”
Diana doesn’t see her patients as just another number on a chart. With her reassuring bedside manner and calm voice, she wants to connect with all of her patients and make them feel heard and truly cared for.
“I love primary care because I have a passion for preventive care. I want my patients to know that I listen to them, and I treat them the way I want to be treated. Those are the two promises I make when I’m seeing someone,” Diana says. “I chose HSNT because it is a great organization that serves our community, and when I’m working, I want it to be meaningful to me. That’s exactly what I found here."
