Meet Sonia
Not every Physicians Assistant treats just the body. Some treat the mind, as well. HSNT's Sonia Ochoa Thomas, like other PAs, has practiced in a variety of fields such as pediatrics, internal medicine, and general medicine. But having been with HSNT for 4 years, Sonia feels her biggest impact comes from providing psychiatric care for her patients.
"At HSNT, my role as a PA focuses on serving the psychiatric needs of our patients," Sonia says. "One case that stands out as a memorable moment in my practice is that of an 8 year old boy with a long history of trauma who was severely depressed and anxious. He was unable to socialize and avoided contact with his peers and caregivers. After our first visit and initial treatment, we saw a noticeable improvement. By his second visit, he was running, playing and dancing with his peers. His dramatic change has inspired me to continue to do what I can to help those who need psychiatric care."
