Putting Family First Starts with Health: Norma's Story

Norma, a devoted mother and wife, has always placed her family at the center of her life. Growing up in a Hispanic household, she learned to prioritize others—managing groceries, caring for her children, and juggling endless tasks—often at the expense of her own health. This mindset shaped her approach to healthcare, where seeing a doctor was reserved for emergencies and home remedies were the norm. However, everything shifted after her last pregnancy.

Hypertension began to take a toll on her health. Although she had been prescribed medication during her pregnancy, she knew she needed further care once her prescription ran out. Like many mothers, she found herself putting her needs last, but she ultimately realized that prioritizing her health was necessary to fully be there for her children. “If we take care of our health first, we can take care of our kids. Let’s do it for them,” she reflected.

When a friend recommended Health Services of North Texas (HSNT), Norma decided to seek help. From her first visit, she felt she had made the right choice. The affordability of care, based on income, opened the door for her to begin focusing on her condition. She wants other moms to know that accessible care is available and can make a significant difference.

Meeting Dr. Rodriguez was another pivotal moment in her journey. Norma felt truly safe and heard, with care that addressed her overall well-being, not just isolated health issues. This holistic approach provided her with peace of mind, something she had not experienced in years.

Since starting her care at HSNT, Norma has seen the positive effects of addressing her health. With her blood pressure now under control, she feels less burdened and can focus more on her children and family. She encourages other moms to prioritize their health, emphasizing that doing so is also for the benefit of their families. Now, with her well-being in good hands, she can concentrate on what matters most—being present for her family.
