Born and raised just south of Denton in the Lewisville area, Jamie Taylor has spent the past decade shaping the future of funding at Health Services of North Texas (HSNT). With a background in teaching and a knack for writing, she was drawn to the Development Associate position originally after moving back to Texas from Colorado in 2015. Having already written grant applications for her classrooms, Jamie saw an opportunity to apply her skills to support healthcare. Within a year, she had stepped into the Grant Manager role, where her curiosity and love of learning helped her grow alongside the organization.

Reflecting on her time with HSNT, Jamie sees the transformation firsthand: “When I started, our patient population was about half of what it is today. In just 10 years, we’ve doubled the number of people we serve by strengthening our systems and expanding our impact.” She is proud to have been part of that growth, helping secure funding and building structures that make HSNT stronger and more sustainable.

Jamie views grant writing as a blend of head and heart by combining patient stories with data that proves the need. For her, it’s never a solo effort. “Grant management is a team sport,” she says. “From accounting to clinical staff, it takes collaboration to tell the full story of HSNT’s work.”

Her favorite part of her job, though, is the people. “I get to work with passionate, community-minded coworkers. We spend so much of our lives at work, so you want that time to mean something.”

Among her many mentors and collaborators at HSNT, Jamie credits leaders and colleagues across the organization with shaping who she is today and her success. Continuous learning has been a hallmark of her career, and she embraces every opportunity to adapt and bring new ideas to the table.

Outside of work, Jamie’s creativity continues in a different form through knitting and crochet. She loves the balance of structure and artistry the craft provides, much like the grant writing process. Her greatest joy, though, comes from family life. With her husband and their two daughters—one starting kindergarten and the other recently joining the school band—the Taylor family enjoys life’s many evolutions, even recently welcoming a pet snake named Ayame into the household.

As she celebrates her 10th anniversary, Jamie hopes to be remembered for both her strong work and her role in fostering HSNT’s positive culture. “It’s about doing good work and being a good teammate,” she reflects. “That’s the legacy I want to leave.”
