At HSNT, we believe every child deserves to live their healthiest life. On National Child Health Day, observed annually on the first Monday of October, we reaffirm our commitment to providing excellent healthcare to all children in the North Texas community.

Children’s health is so much more than just adult health on a smaller scale. Kids have unique needs that come with their quickly growing bodies, so they need healthcare that is uniquely tailored to them. In the past, the US healthcare system mainly functioned for the needs of adults, and child illnesses were largely treated at home. As healthcare facilities focused on children became more prominent, the health of children and their communities as a whole began to improve. In 1928, President Calvin Coolidge issued the first proclamation for Child Health Day, recognizing the importance of caring for children’s health on a national scale. This special day is now observed on the first Monday of October every year.

In 2025, lack of insurance is a significant challenge that families face when seeking healthcare for their children in North Texas. The latest census data shows that 13.6% of Texas kids are uninsured, more than double the national rate. Access to insurance makes a huge difference in the amount of care that children receive, for instance, 85% of children enrolled in Medicaid go to their well-child checkups, as opposed to only 56% of children without insurance. Community Health Centers like HSNT exist to help fill these gaps in care by providing healthcare services for all children, regardless of insurance status. This care helps ensure that children spend less time sick and more time learning in school and doing other activities important for their development.

HSNT recognizes access to primary pediatric care as a crucial part of every child’s health and well-being. We provide high quality care for children of all ages, with a focus on establishing a medical home for comprehensive healthcare. HSNT has provided 7,870 North Texas children with accessible, compassionate healthcare so far in 2025.

In August of 2025, the guardian of an HSNT pediatric patient shared this about their HSNT care experience: “The care was kind, my children were treated with love and proper care. I feel grateful to have found a safe place where my babies have the necessary health care thanks to Dr. Bhangoo and her staff.”
