MA Week Spotlight: Farewell, Roy

This past MA Week, we’re saying a goodbye and thank you to Roy Tchounbia, who has been part of HSNT since December 2022.

Roy first joined HSNT while pursuing his degree at UNT, drawn to our mission. What kept him here was the support and compassion he found in his team. “HSNT worked with my class schedule and gave me my first real clinical experience. I’ve learned patience, teamwork, and how important it is to ask for help.”

Trilingual in French, Spanish, and English, Roy has used his language skills to connect deeply with patients. “Being able to explain medical care in a patient’s own language builds trust,” he shared. “It’s about making sure people feel seen and understood.”

Roy will soon graduate from UNT and begin studying for the MCAT, the next step toward his dream of becoming a pathologist. Inspired by his family’s experience with cancer and a long line of healthcare professionals, he hopes to “understand the body’s intricacies” and one day return to HSNT as Dr. Roy.

As he reflected on his time here, Roy said, “If I could stay here forever, I probably would. HSNT shaped me during these formative years and taught me what compassionate care truly means.”
