At Health Services of North Texas, our provider Ana Archila, PA-C, is turning her long-term goals into reality through careful planning and determination. Curious about her secret? She’s here to share her favorite tools to help you do the same!

Instead of jumping into abrupt lifestyle changes or making unsustainable New Year’s resolutions, Ana recommends a more practical approach: setting SMART goals. What’s a SMART goal? Let her break it down for you:

  • S: Specific – Be as detailed as possible. What exactly do you want to achieve?
  • M: Measurable – Track your progress to stay motivated.
  • A: Attainable – Set goals that are realistic and within your reach.
  • R: Relevant – Make sure your goals align with your personal health vision.
  • T: Time-bound – Give yourself a clear deadline to work toward.

Ana also suggests sharing your goals with a friend or family member for added accountability.

Here’s an example of how Ana uses SMART goals in her own life:

"One of my personal goals is to increase strength training," she says. "Strength training is essential for preventing decreases in bone density and maintaining mobility over time. My SMART goal is to engage in strength training three times a week for 30 minutes per session using home workout videos or YouTube. I’ve set an 8-week timeline to track my progress."

Ana emphasizes that consistency is key, but it’s also important to be kind to yourself. "If you miss a day or two, don’t be too hard on yourself. Every day is a new opportunity to show up and try again!"

So, what SMART goals will you set for yourself this year? Whether it’s improving your fitness, eating healthier, or prioritizing mental wellness, your provider is here to support you. Share your goals during your next visit and let’s work together to make this your healthiest year yet!
