Don’t Miss Out on Your Health Insurance Savings

If you or someone in your family gets help paying for health insurance through the Marketplace, we’ve got an important reminder for you.

Starting mid-April, you might get a letter called an FTR Recheck Notice. It’s just the government’s way of checking in about your taxes. If you get this notice, it means you may not have filed your taxes yet, or you might’ve forgotten to include a special form.

No worries, but it’s important to fix it soon! If not, you could lose the discount (called APTC – Advance Premium Tax Credit) that helps make your monthly insurance payments more affordable.

Here’s What You Can Do:

  • File your federal taxes as soon as you can
  • Include IRS Form 8962 – this form tells how much help you received
  • Don’t wait! If you don’t take action, your savings could go away this summer

Why Did I Get This Notice?

The Marketplace (that’s where you got your health insurance) is double-checking with the IRS to make sure:

  • You filed your taxes
  • You included the right form (Form 8962)

If something’s missing, they’ll let you know so you can fix it.

What’s FTR Status?

FTR stands for Failure to File and Reconcile. Sounds a little scary, but it just means:

  • You got help paying for your health insurance
  • But you haven’t filed your taxes and included the right form for one or two years

If it’s been two years in a row, your financial help is at risk.

What’s an FTR Recheck Notice?

It’s a friendly reminder to take care of your taxes and forms. You still have time to fix it, but don’t wait too long!

What Happens If I Don’t Do Anything?

If you don’t file and include Form 8962 by this summer:

  • Your monthly savings (APTC) could stop
  • Your insurance bill could get much higher
