Well-Woman Exam

What Is a Well-Woman Exam?

A well-woman exam is a yearly visit focused on your reproductive and overall health. During this visit, your provider checks for concerns, answers questions, and helps prevent health problems before they start.

A well-woman exam may include:

  • A physical exam
  • A Pap test
  • Screening for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and infections
  • Preventive care and health education

You can also talk with your provider about:

  • Irregular periods
  • Menopause symptoms
  • Fertility concerns
  • Birth control options
  • Treatment options when needed

If you need help with referrals, HSNT has an in-house social worker to support you. Spanish-language care is also available.

Who Should Get a Well-Woman Exam?

According to women’s health guidelines, all women age 21 and older should have a well-woman exam every year. These exams help identify health concerns early, when they are often easier to treat. Regular visits can lead to better health outcomes and peace of mind.

Important note: A well-woman exam focuses on women’s health needs, such as reproductive and breast health. It does not replace a complete physical exam. Physical exams assess overall health, including heart health, cholesterol levels, and chronic conditions. For the best care, we recommend scheduling both regular physical exams and well-woman exams.
