STI Testing

Why STI Testing Matters

Many sexually transmitted infections (STIs) do not cause symptoms right away. Without testing and treatment, STIs can lead to serious health problems such as:
  • Chronic illness
  • Infertility
  • Reproductive organ damage
  • Certain cancers
  • Vision problems
Early screening helps protect your health and helps prevent the spread of infection to others. When found early, many STIs can be treated or managed with medication. HSNT does offer FREE HIV Screening on Friday mornings from 9:00 am to noon at our Denton Medical Center and HSNT Plano locations. This is truly a screening that if screened positive we then schedule an appointment and conduct a full testing panel. We have an entire website dedicated to Ending the HIV Epidemic.

STI Testing We Offer

HSNT offers in-house testing using blood and/or urine samples. Some tests may require a physical exam.

We screen for:

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Syphilis
  • Trichomoniasis
  • Genital herpes (with or without symptoms)
  • HIV
  • Hepatitis
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV)

Women may need a pelvic exam for HPV screening. Our medical teams work to return results as quickly as possible and discuss next steps with you.

If needed, we may also recommend testing for sexual partner(s).

Treatment & Follow-Up Care

HSNT provides treatment for all STIs, even when a cure is not available. Our providers will work with you to:

  • Start treatment quickly
  • Manage symptoms
  • Prevent future infections
  • Connect you to additional care if needed

All care and records stay in one place, making follow-up easier and faster.

Preventing STIs

There are several steps you can take to lower your risk and protect your health:

  • Get tested regularly, especially if you are at higher risk
  • Use protection during sexual activity
  • Women should receive HPV screening during routine pelvic exams
  • Men should also be tested for HPV
  • Get the HPV vaccine if age-appropriate (ages 11–26)

Our care teams are happy to talk with you about prevention options and answer any questions you may have.

HIV Care & the Ryan White Program
