Pediatric Sick Visits

What Is a Pediatric Sick Visit?

A pediatric sick visit is for children who are feeling unwell and need medical care right away. Many childhood illnesses can be treated at home, but some symptoms should be checked by a provider.

Your child may need a sick visit if they have:

  • A fever over 101°F
  • A cough or sore throat
  • Stomach pain, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • A rash that is spreading or getting worse
  • Symptoms that are not improving

If an in-person visit is not the best option, HSNT also offers telehealth sick visits.

To schedule a sick visit, please call HSNT to make an appointment.

Benefits of Pediatric Sick Visits

Pediatric sick visits at HSNT help children get the care they need without delay. Benefits include:

  • Fast diagnosis and treatment
  • Lower risk of complications
  • Clear guidance and reassurance for parents
  • Ongoing care from a team that knows your child
  • Help prevent the spread of illness

As a Community Health Center, HSNT is also a great choice for families using Medicaid or CHIP, families without insurance, and families managing ongoing or chronic conditions.

When Should I Bring My Child in for a Sick Visit?

You should consider a pediatric sick visit when your child has symptoms that:

  • Interfere with daily activities like eating, sleeping, or school
  • Are sudden or getting worse
  • Need medical advice or testing

Our team is here to help you decide the best next step for your child’s care.

Conditions Commonly Treated During Sick Visits

Our pediatric providers treat many common childhood illnesses, including:

Fever

A fever is often a sign of infection or illness and may need medical attention.

Cough or Sore Throat

Coughs and sore throats can be caused by infections, allergies, reflux, or other conditions. We help find the cause and relieve symptoms.

Stomach Pain

Stomach pain with vomiting or diarrhea can lead to dehydration and may signal another medical issue that needs care.

On-Site Testing for Faster Answers

HSNT offers testing in our on-site laboratory. If your child needs testing for flu, strep throat, or other illnesses, results may be available before you leave. This helps us start treatment sooner so your child can recover faster.

Sick Visits: In-Clinic or Telehealth

We offer sick visits both in the clinic and through telehealth.

If you prefer not to bring your child into the office, ask about our telehealth options. For in-person visits, HSNT takes extra steps to keep families safe by limiting exposure to contagious illnesses whenever possible.

What to Expect After the Visit

After your child’s visit, your provider will share a clear care plan. This may include:

  • Home care instructions
  • Over-the-counter or prescription medications
  • Follow-up visits, if needed
  • Referrals to specialists

If testing is done, our team will contact you with results as soon as they are available. We work closely with parents to support healing and recovery.
