Newborn Care

Caring for Your Baby’s First Days

The newborn stage brings many questions, and that’s okay. Parents often ask about feeding, sleep, growth, skin changes, bowel movements, and what medications are safe for babies.

Our pediatric team is here to guide you every step of the way. We take time to listen, answer questions, and help you feel confident caring for your newborn. You can contact your local HSNT Children’s Medical Clinic whenever you need support.

Newborn Care FAQs

According to the CDC, most babies receive their first vaccines around 1–2 months of age. Your HSNT provider will help you create a vaccine schedule and answer any questions you have.

Keeping your baby’s skin clean and dry is the best first step. If diaper rash does not improve, your pediatric provider may recommend or prescribe medication.

Most babies have their first visit 2–3 days after leaving the hospital, usually when they are 4–5 days old. The next visit is often around 1–2 months of age.
