Meet Katie

Katie Grennan, MSN, APRN, CNM, is here to serve North Texas mothers-to-be and partner with them throughout their pregnancy.

After spending years at home raising and homeschooling her children, Katie returned to school at 40 with a clear goal in mind: to become a Certified Nurse Midwife. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, then immediately continued on to graduate school at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing in 2023 and has had “zero regrets” since.

“I knew from the beginning that midwifery was where I was meant to be,” Katie shared. “I really wanted to work specifically in women’s health, especially around pregnancy and motherhood.”

Katie believes pregnancy can be an incredibly empowering season, often marking the first time many women are encouraged to prioritize their own health. At the same time, she is deeply aware of the inequities that persist in maternal care, particularly for women of color and under-resourced communities.

“There are real disparities in maternal health,” she said. “I wanted to be part of the change, to help close those gaps and make care safer and more equitable.”

At the heart of Katie’s approach is partnership. Rather than dictating decisions, she walks alongside her patients, offering education, resources, and support so they can make informed choices that feel right for them.

“I want women to be active participants in their own health care,” she explained. “My job is to provide resources, education, and support so they can set themselves up for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.”

Katie also understands how overwhelming pregnancy can feel, especially for young or first-time parents. She became a mother herself at 21 and vividly remembers how intimidating the experience was without guidance or knowledge on how to best advocate for herself.

“I try to think about what I needed back then and didn’t have,” she said. “That perspective really shapes how I work with patients today.”

Before joining Health Services of North Texas, Katie practiced in a private Fort Worth setting, serving primarily insured patients. While she valued that experience, she was drawn to HSNT’s mission. “I wanted to work somewhere I knew I could make a real difference,” she shared.

Outside of work, Katie is a proud mom of four and an avid traveler. She loves exploring off-the-beaten-path destinations, from Southeast Asia to South America and beyond, often hiking and

road-tripping along the way. When she’s closer to home, she enjoys swimming, spending time with her family, and continuing to learn.

When asked what she would say to someone hesitant about seeking prenatal care, Katie’s message is simple and reassuring:

“We’re here for you. We’re a safe, non-judgmental place, and early care truly makes a difference. You don’t have to do this alone.”
