Sports Physicals

Home Services Sports Physicals

Many schools and youth programs require a sports physical before a child can join sports or other physical activities. We make sports physicals simple, affordable, and stress-free, so your child can focus on doing what they love.

HSNT offers sports physicals at Wylie Children’s Medical Clinic in Wylie, TX, with pediatric services also available at our Denton health centers and Plano location. We recommend scheduling your child’s sports physical a few weeks before it is due in case follow-up care is needed.

Sports Physicals

What Is a Sports Physical?

A sports physical is a medical exam that checks if it is safe for your child to participate in sports or physical activities. These exams help protect your child’s health and meet school or program requirements.

HSNT pediatricians and nurse practitioners complete the exam and any required paperwork so your child is ready for the season.

Benefits of Sports Physicals at HSNT

Sports physicals are quick and noninvasive, with important benefits such as:

  • Meeting school and state requirements for sports participation
  • Confirming your child is healthy enough to play
  • Checking for possible injury or health risks
  • Identifying concerns that may need follow-up
  • Helping your child perform at their best
  • Supporting safe and active lifestyles

Who Should Get a Sports Physical?

Sports physicals are recommended for:

  • Students joining school sports or extracurricular activities
  • Children starting a new sports season
  • Athletes returning to play after an injury
  • Youth participating in organized physical activities

These exams help ensure children can safely take part in sports at any level.

What Happens During a Sports Physical?

We know doctor visits can feel stressful, especially when children don’t know what to expect. Our team makes the visit as calm and comfortable as possible.

During the visit, your provider will:

  • Review your child’s medical history
  • Ask questions about past injuries or conditions
  • Check height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and reflexes
  • Complete the required sports physical forms

The exam is not invasive and is designed to be quick while still thorough.

If Additional Testing Is Needed

Sometimes a provider may recommend additional testing or follow-up, especially if your child has:

  • A chronic condition (such as asthma or diabetes)
  • A past sports injury
  • Symptoms that need closer review

HSNT offers in-house testing and laboratory services for faster results when available. If needed, we can also help arrange follow-up visits or referrals to specialists.

After the Sports Physical

Most sports physicals are completed in one visit. If your child needs further evaluation or medical clearance, our team will guide you through any next steps and help coordinate care. If you have questions at any time, we encourage you to contact us. We’re here to support your family.
